What Type Of Horror Is 'Keys' ?

A film about a sick and twisted, student-napping janitor is quite tricky to put into a horror category. Its not necessarily, Slasher horror, Psychological horror/Suspense, Paranormal horror, Science Fiction, Monster movies (Cryptid/Creature horror) or Vampire horror to name som.
However originally we wanted to make a film about a cannibal horror but as we discussed it the storyline was changed.

So to categorize ‘Keys’ I have decided it could be amongst ‘Stalker horror’ and ‘Torture horror’. I have chosen these two because for starters the janitor does stalk the children and plans how to kidnap them, and when he finally does he tortures them! Torture horrors usually evolve around anguish, extreme mental distress or unbearable physical pain. A lot of agony and torment, examples of well known torture horrors include; Hostel, Saw series, Texas chainsaw massacre, House of 1000 thousand corpses, hills have eyes etc. These films all share physical PAIN, and infamous shocking and horrific torture scenes.

The stalker horror category isn’t very big or popular, but some examples of this are; The Omen, The hitcher, Halloween, I know who killed me, Copycat and stalker. These all include a lot of prowling and sneaking about.

Like most horrors, stalker and torture are generally very edgy. The audience is kept in the dark as much as the victim in the movies are, and I suppose this is to scare the audience even more and let them experience the movie as if they were in it. These movies are very tense, and have a lot of jumpy scenes, sometimes then end unsolved, and most times hey end badly! evil wins.

Overall i don't feel that 'Keys' can be classified into one solid group. Nowadays horrors clash and crossover and have loads of different things in order to appeal to a wider audience, but I think it is okay to say that this film is somewhat inbetween a Mild Stalker/Torture Horror.
